Triumph TR3 - Igniton woes

Hi everybody and thank you for all the help I have received thus far. My new dilemma is: What would or could be the problem if there is no voltage at the igniton side of the fuse box? When I run a jumper wire from the battery(-) to the fuse box(a3) the igniton switch and push starter button will turn the engine. This is a 1959 3-A. TS/51399-L

Check down the side of the engine at the front and see if you have a ground strap. It is braided and about the size of your little finger abour 10" long. It is usually connected between the nut on the top of the front motor mount down below and just in front of the distributor under the horn on the LHS. It should be connected the the bolt to work as a ground nearby.

If not there, confirm than you don't have one on the other front motor mount instead.

Did this just suddenly become a problem when it worked OK before ?

Don, Thanks for the info. And here's some more for you! We checked the ground and it is in place. And we also cleaned the grounding points. Without using a jumper there is no voltage to the ignition switch. This is a new switch the original was missing. And the push button starter checks out to be good. We have checked for breaks in the wiring harness without any luck. The gauges and peripherals are not connected. I have seen a few pics, but not enough to be sure, but there is a white wire connecting from the cold side of fuse to push starter. This white wire is not on my diagrams. And it will obviously work. But is it original or just a quick fix???
To answer your question this car has not run in at least 15 years. But when we jump it, it fires up and purr's like a tiger!
Thanks, Brian

Hi Payne:
If you have to use a jumper to get power to A3 there must be a problem with your fuse block because it should be getting power from the battery at A1 and it is then distributed to the other terminals in the block.

Thanks everyone for your tips. I'll save them for future reference. It seems that the problem this time around was the amp gauge. That is where the junction is for the "two halves" of the wiring diagram.
