Triumph TR3 - Ignition Warning Light

The TR3 ignition warning light remains a mystery to me, and I hope someone can give me an explanation of its function. Until yesterday, the light came on when I turned the key and went off when the car started. Thereafter, it remained off while the engine was running. Yesterday, my regulator and generator had to be replaced. After that, when the engine is running, the ignition warning light comes on whenever I idle at about 1000 rpm and it immediately cuts off when I accelerate. The Triumph handbook has a cryptic statement about this, but it is Greek to me. Can someone enlighten me? Many thanks.
