Triumph TR3 - Heater Return to Water Pump
| I just installed the metal tubing into the water pump for the heater circuit. Has experience shown that the olive fitting makes a water tight connection into the adaptor that is now fitted to the water pump, or does anyone advice any additional sealing techniques or materials? My olive seemed to be a bit loose on the tubing. Heat is on the way, just in time for spring... Bill Stagg 1961 TR3A |

| I've never had a leak at the olive fitting where that water return pipe goes into the pump casting. The olive should have a certain "slip fit" inside diameter on the pipe. If it is loose, maybe the olive was not made correctly. Or the pipe is old and rusty and the OD might be smaller after you or the PO cleaned off the rust. If this is the problem, file or sand down to clean steel, then use some acid flux used by plumbers and solder a bit of solder onto the pipe all the way around using a propane torch, then file it round to the correct outside diameter. I replaced my pipe with a new one in 1990 when I did my restoration. It's been fine ever since (over 70,000 miles). Don Elliott, 1958 TR3A |
