Triumph TR3 - Headlight trim rings

My daughter and I are undertaking our first restoration project on a 57 TR3A. We are currently stymied on how to go about removing the chrome trim rings surrounding the headlights. I assumed a counter clock-wise turn would do it but that hasn't worked so far. Any suggestions?

Hi Craig,
Everyone else must be out in the garage!
The TR3 practical hints book says "Remove the Snap-on rim by inserting the end of the special tool (provided in the kit) behind the lower edge of the rim and levering sideways." See the image.
