Triumph TR3 - Headlight Choices

What is everyone using for headlights in the TR3, TR3A and TR3B? Apparently, my car came with the nice-to-look at reproduction tripod lights, but I can tell you they are quite dim and unfocused on a dark road at night.

I'm not a slave to the tripod look, but I am passionate about driving safely at night. I'd love to know what you've got up front in YOUR buckets.

Many thanks,

I was using PL 700 Tripod lamps that I bought in 1963 (16.00 for the pair) and I used halogen insert replaceable bulbs in them till about 3 years ago when one of the tripods corroded and fell to the bottom. Since then I use basic $12.00 General Electric 7" lamps with "Halogen" written on the box.

Many add a badge bar and one or two extra 5" "Rally lights - Tripods again - but personally, I don't like the look of my car with them on.

I try to do most of my driving during daylight hours. At night, I'm usually near home and "TRusty" is like an old horse. He knows the way home even if the lights weren't working.

Bill: I also have a pair of the reproduction tripods which, I concur, are not the best visual aid at night! During my one and only ride at night last fall, I didn't seem to be able to aim the headlights so they were suffecient. (no wonder!) I do, however, have two original Lucas driving lights mounted to the bottom sheet metal panel of the grille opening in the apron. These are wired to the high beam switch, so when you have the high's on, the four lights together seem to be adequate. Perhaps after some seasoned driving, I might change to something more practical...

Hi Guys:
I agree with Don.I just use standard GE 7" lamps
Chuck

And there was light!

Mounted two Sylvania 7" Halogens yesterday evening and suddenly night driving is no longer suicidal. Driving is so much fun when you can see where you're going.

Thanks for the advice, guys!
