Triumph TR3 - Fuel Guage
| The fuel guage on my TR3B is always pegged at FULL (when the ignition switch is on), though now the tank is about at half. I believe this is the result of a ground, but I am not sure. Any ideas on the cause and how best to troubleshoot the location of the cause. While the problem is not fatal, sooner or later I will lose track or forget to look at miles driven and then I will walk. Thanks for any help. Gary |

| It could be the ground wire or it's connection (or lack of). If your TR is a bit rusty in areas such as for the ground connection, scrape off the rust and sand it a bit. If your TR is just finished a restoration, the paint could be preventing a ground. Remove the "millboard" backing the trunk and sand under the washer type ground connector that comes from the gas tank sensor down to the closest bolt holding the inverted "U" straps that secure the tank. Also check out the grounds under the dash. My gauge reads full until I've driven about 60 miles, then it pops down to just above 3/4 full. From that point, it's OK. It could be that the sensor is defective. Possibly the float is stuck (or rusted) in the "full" position. In the meantime, carry a long wooden stick with you to probe down the fill hole to know how much gas you still have.
