Triumph TR3 - Fan balance

I know there have been other posts on this subject, but I'm not sure I fully understand the fan balance requirements. I have a '62 TR3B and after pulling the radiator for refurbishment I noticed that the rubber bushings on the fan were looking pretty bad. I ordered a new set from Victoria British and pulled the fan to replace them. Now that I'm ready to re-install it, I've read the posts on the need to balance the fan assembly and I'm getting a bit nervous about it being out of balance. I do understand the need to balance, but the process confuses me. In order to balance everything the fan and extension needs to be pulled, assembled on the bench, balanced and then disassembled again in order to be reassembled on the engine. In order to maintain the balance, shouldn't the unit have to remain intact after balancing? The new rubber bushings are pretty thick and distort when the bolts are torqued down. Seems to me that if the fan isn't pulled down same amount as on the jig, then the balance will be thrown off.

Interestingly, right now there are no balancing pieces on the assembly, just the locking plate and locking washers. So it's possible this has been running out of balance for the last 30 years.
