Triumph TR3 - Engine increases RPMs in neutral
| Recently my TR3A has started to increase it's RPMs when warm and stopping at a light in neutral. Starts and runs fine but races up to 2000 when stopped. The engine will settle down after about 30 seconds or if you put it in gear but run up in RPMs in neutral is unnerving. I have replaced the vacuum advance line tightened all the intake bolts but it still races after warming up. Any thoughts out there? Ray |

| Sounds like an air leak/vacuum leak even though you tightened the bolts. Try spraying carb cleaner around the manifold to cylinder head joints and carb to manifold joints, also spray the ends of the throttle shafts where they stick thru the carb bodies. Any change in running speed indicates the spray is entering the engine. You might also check the distributor for sticky movement of the plate holding the points or any other piece that could affect the timing. Timing has a strong effect on idle speed. Please post what you find when you get it solved; it could help someone else later. |
