Triumph TR3 - distrib cap
Hi all; Anyone out there able to come up with a NAPA part # for their [Echlin] distrib. cap that I can use on a TR -3? Also, does it have side terminals as the originals? I use their cap [NAPA # EP55] in a TR-6, and am very pleased.Well made, copper contacts etc. Thanks, Dave

Since Don Elliot made me aware of the originality of a real Lucas cap with the logo upright, I've coveted one. And they don't go for outrageous prices on ebay. Search Lucas often and you'll find a real one. I've got a nice Bosch cap, never used, brown plastic, copper contacts, side term., if you would like it. I also have upside down Lucas caps on all 3 TR's, never needed replacement. I clean them occasionally. Can't NAPA order one?

The caps with Lucas moulded in upside down are from MG's. They were also used on the very early TR2's because they were the only ones available. Don Elliott, 1958 TR3A http://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthreads/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1919&sort=0&page=0&sortby=&sorttime=&sortdir=

Tom: Thanks for the Bosch cap offer, much appreciated, but I think I'll just go mith a Lucas one. Napa does not list a cap that far back [TR2/3]; I was interested only because I use their Echlin one in our "6", and am impressed with the quality. We put mega-miles on it each year and therefore are more concerned with reliability than being original. I also use their rotor with the same results. The last Lucas rotor used now resides in the desert on the slope of Mt. St. Helens,[as far as I could throw it!!]where it had failed most suddenly AND at the most inconvenient spot.Fortunately I had the Echlin spare along! Thanks again. Dave.

Maybe NAPA goes back to TR4's. Same cap.
