Triumph TR3 - Carpet Installation
| Hi Guys, You all have been very helpful to me in the past, as I am restoring a 1960 TR3A. My current problem is in how to install the carpet kit. What type of glue if any or does it just sit in place. My kit is from Roadster Factory and it does not have any snaps or other types of fasteners. Any help that you can give me will be very appreciated. Happy New Year |

| THE CARPETS UNDER THE SEATS AND THE RUBBER MATS FOR THE FRONT FLOOR HAVE A FELT UNDER-LAY. THE ONES UNDER THE SEAT ARE HELD DOWN BY THE SEAT RAIL ASSEMBLIES. ON THE REAR SLOPES (MINE IS AN EARLY TR3A) ARE FELTED TO MAKE IT ALL LEVEL AND i ATTACHED VELCRO AT EACH END WITH CONTACT CEMENT TO LET THE VELCRO HOLD IT ALL IN PLACE. The front sidewalls in the footwell areas are contact cemented (spray can) to the fiber board backing and it's all screwed into place with those tiny straight-slot chrome headed screws used all over for the interior. The dimmer switch bracket and screws also helps hold the left side carpet in place. The tunnel carpet holds into place by itself but there are 4 snaps that should be visble on the tunnel wall about 2" above the floor level between the handbrake handle and the firewall - same on the driver's side. They hold mine into place. I also have felt glued to the top of the tunnel in exactly the same places as orininally. Pulling down tightly on the tunnel carpet to engage the snaps holds it nicely in place. The arch piece around the top of the tunnel is a bit of a problem with all the corners, bends and the gas pedal ass'y. Use contact cement and hope you don't have to pull out the gearbox too often. For more info - go back and ask TRF. Don Elliott, Original Owner, 1958 TR3A http://www.tr-register.co.uk/images/memberscars/trusty.jpg |
