Triumph TR3 - Carb needles
| Hi Guys: The mixture in my carbs is acceptable.The porcelain and contact are beige in colour but the plug body has light carbon(dry)on it.The adjustment is at max.lean. I have new needles,new jets with centered needles. My needles are std(SM).Is there anyone out there who has tried lean needles perhaps because of a similar problem. Chuck |

| Chuck-Before you decide to change needles, look at the the jet when it is in the max lean position. It should be even with the bridge. If the cork seal on the jet assembly ( #97 in the Moss catalog) is not fully compressesed, it will prevent the jet from being raised high enough. Another solution is to machine a few thous from the shoulder of the upper jet bearing (Moss #91). The color tune tool is very usefull in determining the mixture at idle. I think the carbon on the plug body is normal and the color you described on the porcelain indicates the mixture is correct. |

| Chuck - If you want to get a mixture that is a bit richer (more gas) you can raise both the needles about 1/32" at a time and run it for a while there. Then re-check the colour of the plugs. If you want the mixture to be leaner, you can re-set both the needles a bit lower. It was nice to see you at Bronte Creek on the weekend and to chat about your TR3A as well as the first one which was BRG with a red interior and overdrive which you bought back in 1958 from the same dealer where I bought mine. I think I have to agree that it was the car they ordered specially for me but took too long to arrive and I chose to accept the black one from the same dealer Graham Locke in Montreal.
