Triumph TR3 - A Type OD
Well last year I drove around with 4 gears. The OD did not work at all. Today I checked everything and adjusted the shaft. I followed the instructions in the manual. Did the whole thing twice. Then, due to the fact that it is not a factory rebuild and obviously a little worn I gave it a little extra on the shaft . Tomorrow I will test drive it on the open road and see. Hopefully that will help solve the issue. That's the last item on the repair list for the TR3. Next to sort out the issues on my 68 Morris Mini.

If you find that your OD unit fails to work, check the sizing of the two ball check valves, there was a size change during the production run from 1/4 to 3/8 balls and some of the rebuilds have both sizes installed. A 1/4 ball will seal on a 3/8 seat but a 3/8 will not seat on a 1/4 seat.

Well, it's been a long time since I got the OD running and the car back on the road. The reason being is that I have been having such a blast, that I forgot to let everyone know that I fixed the issue. The basics were all covered. Oil presure good, filter clean etc. The problem was basically the solenoid lever was not pulling the shaft up far enough to engage the OD. So with some creative adjustments to the solenoid (building one out of two units, a new unit which was cheap and made in China so nothing worked correctly and the old unit original lucas from the UK. Along with that the lever needed to be reshaped. After final adjustments it ran and switched in and out with no issues. It only took me 9 hours on labor day weekend to figure it all out!
