Triumph TR3 - 6 Blade Impeller Water Pump
Does anyone have any experience with the optional 6 blade impeller water pump? I was looking into additional options to help keep my engine cooler in the hot summer months. I have been experiencing higher than average temps at highway speed on very hot 95+ days. Temp gauge reads, what I consider to be about 200. For you owners that have had your cars for a while, is this considered normal under these conditions? I have a clean recored no hole radiator, a pusher fan, a puller standard 4 blade fan and an oe 4 bladed pump. I keep the heater valve open. The engine has about 2000 miles since the rebuild. I use 50/50 pre mixed coolant. The plugs are slightly sooty on the outsaide and tan on the tips. On 80 degree day, I have no issues. Any thoughts anyone?

Robert-Even though I haven't had a TR3 for about 8 years, I remember that 90 deg. days sent the temp gauge at or above your reading and it wouldn't take much slow traffic or idling to peg the gauge. Also, the oil pressure was inversly proportional to the temp gauge. Relax. Berry Price

Robert- I second Berry, I live in Delaware too and the TR3A gets up to 200 on hot days -- but it seems to still hang in there and has never overheated. Relax and enjoy.

I've got a TR3A and drive it almost daily in northern VA to work and back. It's a joy in the morning and a bit brutal in the afernoon when the temperatures get into the mid 90s. When I did my rebuild about 6 or 7 years ago, I had the radiator cleaned by a radiator shop in the area. Mine never overheats and I've got no special equipment installed. The gauge gets up to about 190 (185 is normal) even after sitting at idle for up to 10 minutes. I do use Mobil 1 15W50 which probably helps.
