Triumph TR3 - Over drive selinoid
When my TR3A has done about 20mls the overdrive selinoid has a tendency to drop in and out. the problem is worse at night when all the electrics are on. Could the generator lose some of its efficency when hot or could the same happen to the o/d selinoid. Any comments would be appreciated........regards John....

I think its unlikely your charging system is the culprit. After 20 or so miles travel, the transmission lube warms up and loses a little viscosity. If the od operating pressure is already marginal (380 psi is proper), the viscosity drop may lower the operating pressure enough to make your od return to direct drive.

Tnx for comment on oil viscosity Charles, I will change the oil in the gearbox and see what happens.I still feel the problem is electrical and the reason I say this is that during the day the problem is not as prevelent,at night when allthe auxilleries are on is when it starts to play up. In fact, when the turn switch is opperated the o/d drops out.The problem was much greater until I had the regulator adjusted and that was a big improvement. Thats why I felt it was electrics, but I thankyou for ur comments and will change the oil Kindest regards John Strange

Hello from Florida. I just read your last comment concerning the od problem and would like to change my opinion. I believe you are correct in identifying the electrics as the cause of malfunction. Sounds like the charging system isn't quite doing its job. Best regards, Charles
