Triumph Spitfire - Wiring Problems

Hello there I just purchased a 72 MK IV. I had to install a replacement ignition switch (because the keys had been stolen) and did so successfully. However the car will not remain running when i release the starter. IE the alternator does not seem to be getting any power. any advice?
