Triumph Spitfire - Spitfire Rear axle hub removal
| I have a Spitfire in my shop and need to replace the rear axle bearings. I have a hub puller and have applied heat to the hub and it want budge. Dose anyone know a trick to getting the hub off. I know it's a tapered fit like the TR6. I had a special lever puller made up to do the 6's as I see that job frequently. I haven't had but one other spitfire rear axle job in the 17 years I've been doing this. So I can't justify having a $300 tool made for this job. |

| Hi WT, I have gone through this a couple of times ending up with damaged hub but they were spares so that was ok. anyway I contacted a mechanic who works on Triumphs mainly 2.5 and Heralds and he used a press, but the secret was that when it was under pressure he applies an air driven impact and its off in 30 seconds. The guy only charged me $20.00 and two sheep but thats in NZ. Hope this helps. Peter. |
