Triumph Spitfire - Rear end sound
| Hello, I own a 79 spitfire, and whenever i put the car into reverse, i hear a little bit of noise coming from the back end (differential?). Is this something potentially serious? |

| Bob, You may want to check the bolts that attach the axle flanges or drive shaft to the differential. These can loosen and when you back up you hear the shift (a "clunk")of the flanges. Another thing might be a worn universal joint in the drive shaft or axle shafts. A loose mounting bolt on the differential may cause such a noise. If you can offer any other symptoms let me know. This is the first time I have visited the bulletin board in 2 or 3 months but I will check back in a few days. I have a 1968 Spitfire and am currently rebuilding a 69 TR6. Mike Petryschuk |
