Triumph Spitfire - Question from a 16 year old entheusuast...

This probably has a really simple answer but...

What is a trunnion? I've seen the word mentioned in many magazines and I know it's something to do with the suspension, but apart from that, I don't have a clue. Thanx
Jason

Jason,

It is just a way of allowing the front suspension to turn with the steering. It works like a bolt turning in its nut so each side raises and lowers very slightly when turning. They need lots of lube [usually gear oil - not grease] which is kept in place by a rubber seal. If they are neglected [which they often are] they will sieze and your suspension will break!!

I was right then... It was a simple answer. Thanx Herod
