Triumph Spitfire - Gearbox swaps - single rail

Can I fit either a GT6 single rail box with o/d or a Dolomite or Dolomite Sprint single rail box with o/d to a 1500 Spit? What I am interested in are closer ratio gears than the Spit or 1500 Dolomite o/d single rail boxes.
