Triumph Spitfire - Door Stay
| I'm writing for a freinf with a '79 Spitfire He bought two new door stays from Moss, but they still won't hold the door open. I think the problem lies with the welded-in bracket inside the "A" Post. The door stay slides through the slot in this bracket, and the two "V" shaped springs are supposed to be held after they pass through slots also. I think these two slots are enlarged by wear to the point that they won't "lock" the springs. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how is it overcome, since the welded bracket is not replaceable? Any assistance would be most welcome. |

| Hi JR The V shaped spring is supposed to pass over the slots. From your description it sounds like the V shape springs are coming under the slots. Maybe the slots are too wide and need to be compressed. If V shape spring isn't passing over the slot , Maybe pulling out the strap to get it out of the way and filing the slots may help. The TR6 has the same style. A picture of the proper action from my TR6 is attached. Other fixes may be possible - if not worried about the paint job cut out the old slots and try welding in something that works. Let me know if this helps. I have a 68 Spitfire and a 69 TR6. The Spitfire was rebuilt in 1981. The TR6 in 2005. The Spitfire was done on a shoestring budget. The TR6 I took the time to do as close to original as possible. regards Mike Petryschuk
