| Your choice boils down to what kind of car you are looking for - what kind of appeal. If you want a more modern '70s style car I would go for the MK4. However, if you want that classic '60s styling the MK is your best bet. Parts are reasonable and easily obtainable for either. I can't give you any pros/cons for the MK4, as I have only driven one once. But, I would from a personal opinion advise you to get the MK3 - I have had my 1964 MK1 for numerous years, and there is nothing that will make me trade her in. The car is used daily April - October, and is reliable and capable of handling today's traffic (speed limit here in Norway is 55). The 1147 cc will cruise happily all day at 70 mph, and the larger 1300 cc of MK3/4 is certainly up to the job. Driving the car is important, but its looks have to be pleasing. A classic like this should make you look at at it on as amny occasions as possible! That is where the MK3 is a winner.. Good luck - and enjoy :-) |
