MG TD TF 1500 - World Cup

Congratulations to our fellow enthusiasts across the Tasman.

I suppose you will be repainting your cars all black now?

Hi Bill,

Yes congrats to NZ, but what a poor game! England were appalling, and their off field antics no better! For me the one constant was the low performance of many of the referees. They acted like primadonnas and made basic errors that lost some teams the match. And I speak as a fairly high level ex referee!

(North American readers will probably want to give this thread a miss).

I watched the match. I was also disappointed in the game. Give credit to France though for making it a close game.

I played Rugby in college. We started a club my sophomore year. I also played outside linebacker in NCAA college football but rugby was much more fun. I played wing forward. Great drink ups after the match on the pitch...

John,

Us colonists do have some appreciation for Rugger,
one of my nephews is a referee in California working his way up the ranks. He played at RPI in NY state.

Hi James and Frank,

I didn't mean to stir anything up by my previous sweeping comment - after all you were in the World Cup! I gather rugby is a growing sport in the USA, its main advantage being that it can be played by amateurs of all shapes and sizes, after leaving school/college, without the need for body protection.

Incidentaly I refereed US teams from bases here in the UK, who came in a coach and so could fully enjoy a pint or two after the match! I hope the game does progress in the US, and you could well end up as major players in the world game.

Meanwhile back to the safer territory of MGs!

Cheers,

John,

Regarding body protection. At my first match I wondered why some of the players had tape around their heads. I was later told that the tape over their ears kept them from getting torn off. And they say US football is a dangerous sport.
