MG TD TF 1500 - Why is ignition warning light needed?
Lingering question recent elec. post reminded me to ask. Why is the ignition warning light even needed? Based on the wiring it's purpose is to "warn" me if the generator isn't working. But I can surmise that by looking at the ammeter, can't I?

I suspect (from my own behaviour!) that it prevents leaving the ignition switch on, with the key in after shutting down the engine; flat battery etc In the days when these cars were constructed, car theft was not a great problem, and many owners and drivers would leave their keys in the car at all times. But others may know better! IanB

Emergencey outlet for "smoke". Just in case other componets are not "leaking" per spec.

Ian, if that's not the reason it should be!
