MG TD TF 1500 - Whitworth tools

I'm a new member and first time TD owner. Can someone give me some insight on whitworth tools? I have already found how necessary they are and was wondering how many different sizes I will encounter.Would a basic 9 or 11 pc set of sockets and combination wrenches get me by? Can anyone recommend an "affordable" supplier?
Thanks - Mark

Yes, the basic sets would be enough. Some metric sizes work well too. There are a bunch on ebay, no clue about the quality. George

Just don't be tricked into buying Whitworth taps and dies from a New Zealand Ebay site ... you will need BSF taps and dies and a few fine metric sizes for your engine and gear box.

Try these guys, they are honest and also reasonably priced. Look in the bargain bin they have onsite.

I have purchased a lot of tools thru them and prices on taps and dies cannot be beat especially for the whitworth stuff. I have no financial intrest in the co. but they are very good.

Welcome aboard, Mark. IMHO, one of the best sources for Whitworth tools is a frequent contributor to this forum, Hugh Pite (jenntoo (at) shaw.ca). Bud

I buy from British Fasteners. Everything I've received is top quality and my orders came through in a very short time with no mix ups. I bought a small set of Whitworth box wrenches also from Moss once and they are very well made. PJ

I have a set of sockets and combination wrenches from Moss-about 12 years old. I believe that they are made in India. They have been perfectly adequate.

I have some "King Dick" box and combination wrenches, and some of the "Made in India" sockets...I have found all to be quite adequate....I have also noticed that a standard 3/4" SAE wrench and sockets , work great on some of the larger fasteners, as well as 14mm metric ,and 1/2" SAE....

I have a set of Sidchrome sockets made in Oz, only 7 in the set, the only one showing slight wear is the 5/16th, a fraction bigger that 13mm. They have a lifetime gaurantee. My set was handed down from my late father, they are about 70+ years old!!
