MG TD TF 1500 - Which Way and other questions

I am test fitting all the body tub pieces, starting with the "timbers".
This body has been apart for 45 years and I was not careful in documenting the disassembly. There are two brackets that hold the front side rails (inner)(13).( I do not find them on the Moss exploded view) Do I have them on the correct side of the weldment? (See Picture). Also are the nuts on the correct side?

Also I note that there seems to have been washers between the bracket and the timber. I have not found mention of them in the assembly instructions I have found. It would seem that tow on the top and one on the bottom with the brackets as pictured work best.

Am I way off base?

Finally I have ordered a supply of UNC 1/4-20 SS FH slotted MS from McMasters. I plan to use these with SS BSW nuts which differ only by the angle of the thread. I will either run a UNC tap through the nut (most likely) or a BSW die over the screws. Does this seem to be an acceptable approach? If they were Hex Head I would use BSW

In general, you will need to shim lots of different places slightly to have everything align, and the doors hang right. My rule is that if there is room for them, shims go in.

On a picture of my car before restoration, the brackets are as they are in your picture (outside the welded flange). Might be good to pick up the Horst Schast TD restoration book- good section on building the tub. As Tom says, you will need shims, among many other things. George

I had this same question about the brackets a few years ago and after some research concluded that they went opposite from they way you show. I put mine on the 'inside' of the flange and side rails. I put the bolts through the wood with the head of the bolt and flat washer against the wood and the nut and split washer against the bracker. I think that the indents in your wood suggest that the bracket was on the opposite side. Not really sure about bolt direction. Flat washer could have been under the nut/split washer. I have a 54TF. ....really bad memory which I was going by when I posted the above. Was under the dash today and saw that the brackets attach to the dash side of the side rail as shown in your picture. I did bolt the bracket to the firewall side of the welded flange. Sorry for the misinformation... Maybe someone with and 'original' can comment... John

Not sure from your image which side of the car we are looking at. I have not taken these pieces off my car but a PO may have. Mine are mounted on the front side of the chassis hoop with the kink in the plate going towards the rear of the car. The head of the bolts are towards the front of the car. There were washers between these plates and the timber wedges on my car.

Here is a picture of mine (added ground). Everything lines up good.
