MG TD TF 1500 - Waterless coolant
Just on Leno's website and they were showing Evans Waterless Coolant. Anyone use this and does it work like they say? Seems like a good idea, especially with the TD haveing a pressurless system.

Tom, I started a conversation about Evans Waterless Coolant in Dec 2011. Look in the archives under the subject heading "Coolant (again II)". I was actually just going to update the board on what I did. I opted not to go with the waterless coolant for these reasons. - I did not have time to do a careful job of removing water from the cooling system (to realize the full benefits of the waterless coolant system). - I have some small concerns that the Evans product might find some places to weep. (The senior person I spoke with at Evans said that switching to waterless coolant was like switching to silicone brake fluid--it can leak at connections which did not leak before.) - Assuming the cooling system operates below the boiling point of whatever fluid is used, a water/glycol mix will have better heat transfer characteristics than the waterless coolant. Since the TD cooling system capacity is often suggested to be marginal, I thought it best to preserve as efficient operation as possible. Larry

To some folks surprise, waterless coolant has been out for many years. It was and still is used a lot in the construction industry in heavy diesel equipment. We purchased it in 55 gallon drums back in the 70s for our equipment, since it was recommended by Caterpillar, and deviating from their recommendations, can lead to voiding their warranties. For that reason we changed over to it for all equipment. None of the pickups or cars used it, only green! I don't use it in my personal vehicles due to the fact that it wasn't available in most service stations across the country if the system needed more coolant. I still use the green anti freeze in all my vehicles and see no reason to change something that has treated me well for the past 50+ years. You know, the other side of the fence always looks a little greener. JMHO. PJ
