MG TD TF 1500 - Wadizzit? #1 and #2

Anyone recognise these?

The red car is 5 1/4 inches long, is perforated in places and splits in two. And if you hold your nose close to the screen you will notice it reeks of perfume. Fairly old plastic.

The badge is anodised thin aluminium with three fold-over tags.

No I.D. on either.

Cheers,
Matthew.

Matthew,
"IT SPLITS IN TWO" I'm assuming you mean that the body comes off of the frame/wheels??? Or does it split down the middle?? The perforations,,, are they little holes??
Mabey that little round top unscrews, and perfume is added to some sort of material inside, and the aroma is emmited through the little holes(perforations) in the bottom????

It splits down the middle. Yes, there are lots of little holes that do not show up in the photo. Nothing unscrews, but may have had a loop at the top once.

How long is it???

The car looks like a cologne bottle that Avon used to sell. In case you are unaware, Avon is a company that sells jewelry, clothing, perfumes, and nic-nacs.

Rob, the Avon bottle was a 1936 MG, made of red glass, with a white plastic top, measured 7". The spare was the screw on lid. Have a new one in the box a friend gave me. Not sure what this plastic one is.

I'm in aggreement with Larry here ...not the Avon model. I have one of those also and it is as Larry said. When I first looked your pic that is where my thinking went but didn't take long to spot the tyres are different (Avon in "one" long smooth wheel not the "tread" like this one).
Never seen this one before!

Not only did Avon make the 1936 MG-TA bottle, they also had large and small beer steins with the TA molded into the side (along with other vintage cars). The bottles came in several different after shave fragrances. The photo is from my collection of TA stuff to go along with my car. I also have one of the bronze TD coin banks as shown on the first row of http://www.mgnuts.com/artwork/other/ However, it a 1953 with round taillites, unlike my 1952 TD Mark II with rectangular taillites.

Any idea of what scent the perfume bottle held? Sounds interesting. I'll have to watch the flea markets for one.

The red car is 5& 1/4 inches long. It is not a perfume bottle, just an empty perforated shell. I am guessing it was some sort of wardrobe or linen drawer perfumer maybe holding potpurri?

Could the badge have been used to decorate a bicycle or tricycle?

From your description and the picture it looks like it might have held candy and been a Christmas tree ornament. Looks like there was probably a plastic hook on the top; just my thoughts.....

John, those beer steins are great! I've never managed to find a set myself. If you have a nice photo of them, I'd love to add them to the gallery on my site.

Matthew, same for the car you have - I'd be happy to put a nice image of it on the site and see if anyone can identify it.

Please contact me by e-mail. I'll see if I can get a good photo of the steins and forward it to you.

Steve, just sent the photo to your website.

Richard, I think you are right about a hook/loop on the top, but maybe too thick and heavy for a Christmas tree item?

Cheers,
Matthew.

There was also a green Avon bottle MG. The European variety, I believe.

Good day all:

I have the Avon After Shave, 1936 MG TA, decanter, as per Mr. Master's photograph. This still has a lingering, albeit getting fainter, aroma which the box notes as being named "Wild Country".

I cannot suggest any other fragrance that I could compare it with.

There is a small M.G. history, also regarding the TA Model and provided instructions as how to affix the four, wire wheel stick-ons. The fifth cannot be used as there is a cross strap relief on the spare wheel. The instructions read that due to the adhesive quality, the fifth one may be used as a "practice spare". I have never done that operation and so they are still on the sheet provided.

I also had an Avon, 1948 Chrysler, (I believe), two door, Town and Country model. This was green with the simulated external wood trim. I gave that to a chap who was restoring the very same styled car.

Right then that's me thrupnee bit on't subject.

Cheers all; respectfully:
Jack Emdall, TD 3191, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.
