MG TD TF 1500 - Turn signals and brake lights

Starting to look for ground connection problems to get the brake LEDS to flash. I can't quite get the function of the indicator relay and the flasher. When you call for left or right I can see the flasher sending power to the indicator relay and flashing the rear lamp brighter element. What confuses me is when you activate that same brighter element while braking the flasher must do the opposite and cut power to that same brighter element. How does that work? Maybe I need to take a break.

Peter - The turn signal relay determines where the brake light and the turn signal voltage is routed. The turn signal relay is essentially two, double pole, double throw switches in on housing. An easier way of looking at the action is the drawing of the turn signal relay assembly that Peter Edney made up for the TCs (see the attached drawing). If this doesn't make any sense to you, e-mail me at: SUfuelpumps@donobi.net and I'll see if I can walk you through the process. Cheers - Dave

Thanks guys.
Now I can "see" how this works.
I can follow a load path mechanically. Just a bit more confusing with electrons. For some reason they can be increased, decrease or they're be direct or alternate.
The two coils make sense though.

One more thought.
I was happy to learn left is really right and right is really left on the direction indicator switch.

"I was happy to learn left is really right and right is really left on the direction indicator switch." Depending on how you wire it!
I think I did mine backwards ...filp my swithch to the left to turn left, to the right to turn right.
For some odd reason my brain works that way.
(child of the 60's...)
