MG TD TF 1500 - Toxic Mix: Oil & Water

Looking for feedback to confirm my worst fears; I have a TF 1500. Engine has always had a minor oil drip from the weep hole between the engine and transmission. Over the past few weeks, the composition of the drip has changed and now includes some water and the volume of the drip has increased. Also water level in radiator has dropped and temp on the guage is running at 90C vs previous normal at 80c.
Oil level also down slightly.
Any thoughts on further diagnostics before I pull the head to check gasket or other issues?
Thanks

A quick check of the dip stick for water should clarify if it is the head. If there is water in the oil, pulling the head would be the place to start.

I'd drain the oil and check for water in the "sump". If any found, do not run it any more.
The oil coming from the drip hole comes thru the rear main bearing seal. It shouldn't have any water in it.

Could well be a blown head gasket issue.

It could be that you have the normal T series oil leak and in addition you have a water leak from the rear core plug. The water would track down the rear of the engine over the transmission casing and end up at the same point as the oil leak.
Lots of things to check.
If it is the rear core plug it's a b****r to replace without taking the engine out.
Best of luck

Thanks to all for your guidance. I am proceeding with the head gasket replacement and might also take on a valve job, since the opportunity has presented itself! I am a first timer in this area so more queries may be fothcoming.

Did you find a problem with the head gasket?

Hi Mick52TD,

Interesting comment, but see Archives, absolutely no need to remove engine to replace rear core plug!
