MG TD TF 1500 - top fitting question
My TD top (Moss) has 2 cloth "straps" about 2" wide that run the length of the top on the inside. They affix to the metal bows in 4 places (2 bow top). Does anyone know the correct size screw or bolt for these? (I used too thick of a screw head and I'm afraid it will wear a hole in the top over time as it protrudes too tall.) Sorry for the weak description but I can't find a Moss reference for this piece. Thanks, Ed

Ed, I have an early TD like yours with the 2 bow top. The top is held onto the back bow with a countersunk brass bolt, sitting in a flanged brass washer. The straps on the front bow are held on with a similiar brass bolt and washer. This bolt and washer is covered by an extra piece of strap about 6" long, sewn on top of the main strap, and covers the bolt and washer to protect the top material. There will be holes in the metal bows for these bolts so you should be able to tell the size from the holes. The length will be to suit the nut you use on the inside. I hope this info helps you. If you find you have too much snow, send some our way. George

Ed, Ditto on the snow. I used a stainless steel countersunk head screw to secure the webbing to the top bows. As George says there is a little extra flap in the area, I put the screw head under the flap. My flap was only about two inches long. I did not use the exterior screws on the rear bow, I wanted to pull hood completely away from the bows for stowing or access, and in many miles of motoring with the top up, I have not missed them. warmly, dave
