MG TD TF 1500 - tonneau lift-a-dot studs on dash?

I have 8 round snap connectors on my dash which I think are incorrect. They are for a tonneau cover I guess? The originals would have been snap-a-dot studs?
I will replace if this is the case---thanks in advance.
TCK Tom

Tom, I can think of no reason whatsoever for either type of connectors to be on the dash (fascia). An image would sure be helpful. Bud

Do you mean Scuttle not dash?
Don Harmer

the full tonneau is not original but most cars have had them installed at some point. TC and TD instalations usuaully have lift the dot studs screwed in through the scuttle and in to the ash wood. TFs have the 2bsa threaded studs that go through the scuttle and have nuts holding them in place.
It has become accepted practice to use the lift the dot snaps.

my description is incorrect--the snaps are on the "scuttle" above the dash----they are round and it looke like Moss offers this round type as well as the lift-a-dot studs----wondering which is correct or more correct----i want to replace them all---thanks again
TCK Tom

PDO probably put the snaps on as they are easier to get on and off. Lift dots were what was used when the full tonneau was put on.

I really think that the lift a dot (oval type)that ogo onto a post would be easier to use when attaching the tonneau,,,especially if you have a tight fitting tonneau,,,,

My tonneau cover uses lift the dot type.
(4 on the scuttle)
8 on scuttle seems excessive for either type.
If memory serves me there are are only 8 LTD on my entire cover.

IMHO: If you are painting, fill them in and "re-drill" after you determine what you are going to use for a cover. HINT: I put small nylon washers under mine to keep from chipping the new paint.

If the tonneau you have now is in good shape and you are going to continue to use it you might not have a lot of choice.
(or if you are not painting and are going to have a new cover)

If you are purchasing a new tonneau I believe they are normally shipped with no snaps or LTD fittings installed.

...and if you redrill...be carefull...whoever put mine in happened to hit the little space between the inner and outer dash....pita to get a little clip on them.....

Gordon, been there done that. My body guy covered the holes on one side, not the other and then I hit one of those center deals and what a pain.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

One word of caution. Once you put these in, expect that the next tonneau you get will not fit to the same pins.

I had a tonneau on my TD for 20 + years and the new one I bought does not fit to the front LTD on the doors.

So, I will fill these in with the next rebuild/paint job.

I have a new full tonneau awaiting installation purchased from Moss.

It came with the fittings but they were separate so that they could be matched to the car.

Cheers

thanks everyone---i think i will replace the mishmash with lift-a-dots and order up a new tonneau-----another month of driving up here in Vermont-----
TCK Tom

Think I would order up a new tonneau...then replace the the snaps. Get the cover first! If not repainting see if you can get the cover without LTD's installed as you can put them where you need to cover the holes.

Tom, a word of advice, put your side curtains and wind wings (if you have them) on before you locate the lift-a-dot studs. I've seen snaps used in the outer position across the front to avoid interference. Bud

David Sander, do you or anyone else have a photo of the 2BSA threaded stud set up for the TF?
Many thanks
