MG TD TF 1500 - This weeks daft question!
The final assembly of the TD was done around 25 years ago by Brown & Gammons. You would think they would do no wrong! I have just been down in the passenger well preparing to undo the bolts which hold the coil, and noticed two unused holes in the vertical part of the fire wall which set me thinking. My memory is that there was originally a passenger foot rest, which could certainly be attached through these holes. None of the photos which I have found in adverts and books show it, but have I found another thing which they messed up? I spend little time as a passenger so it has never crossed my mind. Is dementia setting in or do I now have to watch Ebay until a replacement one appears? IanB

Dave brauns great site has this picture,,,although its from a left hand drive car,,,, http://www.dbraun99.com/mgtd15470/Tub/Floor/slides/Passanger%20foot%20rest%20installed.html You might have to cut and paste the link SPW

Ian Brown and Gammons show this item in their parts list but it is not listed as available. Moss show it in their catalogue Part No.456-860 priced at £49. Little British Car Co also list it but it is dearer from them. Depends on how long your legs are as to whether you need a footrest or not!! Regards Mick 52TD

I thought so, I am not losing my mind! And you can imagine the swear words which have just passed my lips. Thank you both for the confirmation and details. I am going shopping! IanB

Ian, If you do get one, don't bolt it in, as it makes a real nice place to store some small spares or a small, tool bag,,, SPW

Ian Further to my previous message Brown and Gammon list the foot rest on their web site under TFS102 priced at 43.86. Mick

I never had any desire for the passenger footrest... until this 90F weather set in. Cruising at 70MPH, and with no carpet nor footrest, the "FIREWALL" really lives up to its name.

Try http://www.sportscarmetalworks.com/pricesttype.htm at £27 each. AJ

Thanks for that link, AJ. Prices look very reasonable - has anyone experience of using them? - Tom.

Tom and other readers of this post regarding Sports Car metal Works, known within the trade as Metal Micky he has a very good reputation for the quality of his work. Check out especially the price of his fuel tanks against the main suppliers. I know I replaced mine last year. Only downside he doesn't answer his phone best contact via email. Regards Mick 52 TD
