MG TD TF 1500 - TF transmission
Anyone have a photo of a TF transmission's innards.... there is a 'positioning' bolt towards the rear (?) that keeps the mainshaft in place (am going from what I was asked......not sure if i'm right in my description).... interested in seeing the threaded part inside....i know there is a long, long shoulder on the bolt and it goes through a threaded bit, then into the shaft.... Anyone happen to have one?

Gordon, check Section F of the WSM. Bud

Do you think they meant the layshaft (cluster gear shaft)? See item #78. The mainshaft is located by the flange nut/bearing/spacer sandwich, etc. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=32771

| I'll bet that George has it right. If you look at the image on page E.10 of the WSM you can see the bolt going vertically up from the rear of the gearbox casing, just before the extension. The bolt is about 3 inches long with a 'tit' on the end that goes into a hole in the layshaft to position it. Here is an image showing a good one and a well worn one: Bud

Yes...that is the bolt that goes up into the transmission, the part we are trying to see is the threaded hole where that bolt goes into..... trying to determine how much is actually in contact with the threads on the bolt.... With everything back together, the bolt head broke off and looked like it had been sheared for years and was epoxied in place (the head)....don't want to pull the whole engine and thinking about making something to keep it in place....

Gordon - That bolt (what's left of it) should be easy to drill and use an easy-out to remove it, then replace with a new one. Cheers - Dave

Gordon, I just remembered that I have a spare gearbox housing in the shop. Measuring from the suface that the head of the bolt bears against -- it is 1.365 inches to the end of the hole, where the bolt would begin to enter into the layshaft. It is 0.786 inches to the beginning of the threads in the hole. So, the threaded portion of the hole is (1.365 - .786)= .58 inches. Bud

Gord........I've got a gearbox in pieces and I also have a bolt. So, tell me what you want a photo of and I will take them and forward.

Missed your posting Colin...sorry... He would like to see a photo(s) of the threaded hole that that bolt goes into, and how much/length it has.....
