MG TD TF 1500 - TF air cleaner special bolt

I have a special tall head bolt that I believe is associated with the TF aircleaner. Does this bolt go on just the forward aircleaner (hardest to get to cover screws) or both, and does it go on the cover side or on the backside (through the carb)? How many special tall head bolts should there be? One carb or two?
Thanks

My TF came to me with tall-head bolts in the front holes, and regular-head bolts in the rears.

Just to clarify 'front' and 'back' in this discussion.
There are three(3)different setscrew head sizes attaching the Vokes Air Cleaners to Carbs originally found on a TF.

The setscrew head at the rear of the air cleaner to carb BUT sited toward the front of the car,is the one with the long, slotted head.
The other one at this rear attachment area has a fairly standard head size.

However, the setscrew affixing the outside 'Vokes'cover(two(2)per Air Cleaner),is a shallow headed one with a star lock washer located inder the head. These setscrews and washers have often been replaced over the years with erroneous standard hardware.

Thanks for clarifying and expanding on my short-hand. Perfect explanation. I restrain myself from being long-winded, and often end up with cryptic and too-brief replies.

Gents
I recall a few years ago, someone posted a photo of these "special bolts" for the TF air cleaners. Would you do it again, whomever you were?

I too would like to see the difference.

Attached is a photo of the bolt that led me to initiate this thread.

Let me be sure I understand Rob's detail.

There should be two tall head bolts (with slot) - in the forward backside holes of both aircleaner/carbs (correct?). And there should be two smaller thickness
bolts in the rear backside holes of both aircleaner/carbs.
And all four aircleaner "top" cover bolts are all the same (right?).

One more question - do all four backside bolts (2 - tall, 2 regular)have a screw driver slot - or just the tall ones?

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

Yes! You are on the correct track.

From what I seen on TFs,the lower headed setscrews on the backside are not slotted like the tall heads. However, someone with an untouched carby car(very rare)may be able to have further input to your query.

Nice to see you are getting it right with regard to TF detail. So many cars have had so many modifications, new, unsuspecting owners
often don't really know what is original and what is not!

Cheers for now.
