MG TD TF 1500 - TD timing
| What shoud be the correct timing on a 52TD? I have been useing 5 degrees BTDC, so if stanging in front of the motor the mark on the pully should be about a 1/4 before the pointer? |

| Search the archives for this subject. Much information on this in there. Many of us set final timming with engine running @ 3000 RPM so advance is engaged using an adjustable timming light set 30 degrees. It works for me! |

| Dave I just got an adjustable timing light. Using the method you described above, do you use the original timing notch? Tom '54 TF |

| Yes but advance your light to 30! |

| With the electronic-display type timing light, set the advance on the display, where you want it (ex:30 degrees)..Then , with the dizzy bolt loosened, run the engine up to 3000 rpm, and move the dizzy until the mark on the pulley, and the pointer , are in line...You are now at 30 degrees@ 3000 rpm. | I watched John Twist do this numerous times in Reno and tried it when I got home....car has never run better. His point was it is more important how the car runs at 3000 rpm than at idle. Have to say I agree with him. Don |

| Gents I just put my new actron advance timing light to use in the manner described. I was a bit intimidated by my engine running at 3000 rpm in my garage. My wife was afraid I'd blow the place up. Set the timing at 30 degrees advanced using the original notch. The TF runs even better now! I was not all that disappointed with performance before, but this setting required me to turn the dizzy about a centimeter counterclockwise. Now, better than ever! Thank you all for this tip.
