MG TD TF 1500 - Stainless Exhaust
| Well...the end of an era....Moss put the stainless exhaust on sale and I ordered one...it came the other day and will be installed next week... Noticed it didn't come with any fittings...wondered if anyone had a problem with using the stock ones...? (this replaces the Dodge Aries Resonator I had put on 7 years ago and which made no difference from an open pipe....I'm going to miss the noise)

I bought some stainless exhaust clamps fer both mine.

Ohhhhh shiny

| Gordon Did you buy the Falcon or Tourist Trophy system? I paid the extra for the Tourist Trophy and bought the Mikalor clamps and the hangers as well. Changed the system in less than an hour and what an improvement. Still get a lovely throaty roar when accelerating but I can now talk (not shout) to the person in the left hand seat when cruising. | It was the Tourist Trophy .... certainly polished....!! |

I used Moss hangers and regular U-bolts. I had to make a short extension for my rear hanger so I would clear the side curtain box. All the brass exhaust nuts eventually came off, so I replaced them with stainless steel and lock washers. My exhaust is a falcon. Pictures in both the engine section and the on-going maintenance section of my website. warmly, dave

I just (5 miles ago) installed a Tourist Trophy exhaust from Moss. ('53 TD) It fit very well, only took 1/2 hour to install and sounds pretty good. Too flashy for my taste but can't be seen for the most part. The price was ok all things considered. I hope it lasts.

Forgot to remember the exhaust replaced by the previously mentioned stainless sysytem was a 2" setup featuring an original "Cherry Bomb" resonator. I have the Thrush bumper sticker on my wall. I plan to save the whole thing. Now that was a "throaty" sound.

Other then the rear 'tip', I'm thinking of painting it high heat black so it isn't quite so 'bling'e'.....?

Gordon. Do you periodically run over folks so they can see your exhaust system? Or are you one of those guys with mirrors on the garage floor? I would leave it shiny.

Gordon may have to be careful not to run anyone down - his decible level will be so low that no one will hear him coming. Stephanie and Ben may have to actually look out the window to see if he's home. Really like those stainless band clamps. My Falcon system went acceptably dull after a few hundred miles. Had to fiddle with it a bit to clear the side curtain box but was able to use the stock mounts. Dan

...i'm thinking all that shine just isn't right for my car...it has patina on the patina.... and i'm thinking driving with it might be like those Hondas with neon lights along their rockers......

I went with the Falcon exhaust. Impressive workmanship. The whole system fit perfect with no mods. Manifold flange on the head pipe is much thicker than the old system I removed. The Trophy is sharp looking, but a little too much glitter and no one sees it. I only wish I could get a hanger out of stainless to replace the one in the photo. Cheaply plated, it's rust waiting to happen. PJ

Mine did not stay shinny for long.

I also opted for a new Tourist Trophy exhaust, but will not be installing it until the body is off of "Rocky" this Winter....Pretty to look at , for sure, but main reason is not to worry about rusted pipes again. Edward

Odd the Falcon stainless exhaust has a lifetime warranty but the Tourist Trouphy only has a 5 year warranty.

PJ, It would be a shame to put the tub back on the car and cover up that beautiful exhaust! Seriously, I put a Falcon system on from Moss about 10 years ago, and it looks fine. It has, however, gotten considerably louder over time.

>It has, however, gotten considerably louder over time. I put a Falcon on my B back in 1995. It got much louder over time. I didn't realise how loud until I rode in someone elses B. So I tried this: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/carbs/ex103.htm So far it's helped. Barney said it only lasted him 10k miles, but that's 2-3 years driving for me. I can live with putting "repack muffler" on the extended maintenance schedule.... ;-)
Rob Edwards
I guess the lifetime warranty doesn't cover it getting louder.
