MG TD TF 1500 - Split Aluminum Oil Filter Housing

I bought one of these many years ago (see pic). Actually, I ended up with two somehow.

I spent a lot of time on this one polishing it up. I found out recently that, after being unavailable for years, the replaceable element is listed by Moss at $64.95(!!!!!).

Has anybody out there found a cartridge or other filter element that can be used in these, perhaps with some modifications?

I'd rather do a spin-on conversion than pay that much for the elements. I have a few elements, but they'll go pretty quickly.

You can have mine if you want. I switched to the Marino filter years ago the my old one just sets there. The spin on is much handier and a heck of a lot cheaper to put a filter on.

I have one that came with my current engine. It had a spare filter with it. I switched mine over to the spin on.

I just converted to the spin on from Bob Grunau. Easy to convert and I can get filters anywhere for a few dollars.

I have also used the Bob Grunau conversion since putting the car back on the road and it is great. I like the idea that I can just replace a spin on oil filter.

There seems to be a mistaken idea that just because we own these cars we have very deep pockets. I am glad that I have learned over the years to do everything otherwise I wouldn't still be doing it.

Unfortunately the young don't have the option of getting involved like we did in our day.

I ended up switching to a spin on after the price shot up so high. And that was if you could even get them. Butch Taras did mine and it looks great. I just paint the filter engine red, but then again, I don't have a concours car either.
