MG TD TF 1500 - Spacer for MGB Fan
| When installing a seven-bladed MGB fan on the TF, it seemed that the existing spacer put the blade too close to the radiator and leaving the spacer off put the fan too far away. As a compromise I made a shorter spacer out of 1/2" aluminum plate. The short post that fits into the center of the fan is made from two stacked washers bolted through the disc. You then need to turn down the washers to match the size of the post from the existing spacer. (My dad made me the caretaker of an old/vintage Myford lathe which I make use of all the time.) Drilling the holes is easy just by using the existing spacer as a guide for a 1/4” drill bit. (It nests right on top of the new spacer.) After the first hole is drilled, put a bolt through to lock it while you drill the other three. The spacer puts the leading edge of the plastic fan at about the same location as the leading edge of the old metal fan. Please understand that this modification will cost you 3.4 points at the Pebble Beach concourse. Safety? Fast? Scott Ashworth - '54 TF

| Hi Did you find the shoulder diameter of the stock TD spaced to be a loose fit in the mgb fan? I didn't feel like I couldn't be sure the fan was centered when I put mine on and don't like running thing that are not true and on-center. Chuck |

| Yeah the MGB opening was a bit larger but the four bolts seemed to hold it on center. You could certainly machine the shoulder to fit. Safety? Fast? Scott Ashworht - '54 TF |
