MG TD TF 1500 - Source for Engine ID Plate Drive Rivets

Virtually the last step in rebuilding the53's engine was to reinstall the ID plate. Put it in position, set in the drive rivet, gave it a whack to install it -- crunch, the head shattered. Had to remove the sump to drive out the broken rivet. Moss doesn't carry them, nor does Abingdon Spares. Does anyone know of a source for these things? Please? Thanks, Bud

Have extras in my spares Bud. Remind me of your address off line and I'll send some. Dan

As they say, "you've got mail". Thanks, Bud

Here is a place that carries drive rivets (along with a lot of other stuff). I have no idea if the rivets we need are ones they carry. http://www.restorationstuff.com/ Cheers - Dave

Doug Pelton has them, as original.

From RestorationStuff. Not sure if they're long enough, but I may order some to find out:

The rivet for my engine ID was about 3/8 long. Didn't check the diameter.

Bud, I recently purchased one from Brown & Gammons Ltd. I have yet to install it. Mike

Did some measurements on the headless piece of the drive rivet. The smooth end measures .120" in diameter. The knurled section is about .130". The length of the screw that's left is about .350". Some of it was clipped off when trying to extract it.
It looks as if the NUT791 from Restoration Supply is very close. Love the price - $.18. Let's see what their 'nominal handling fee' is.
Contacted Doug Pelton. He has the split rivet used in TCs and very early TDs where the ID tag is attached to the bell housing. Bud

Bingo!!! They're Drive Screws! Google it. The ones we need are #6 @ 3/8". A number of vendors including Fastenal. Price about $6US/100. Bud

Here is a picture of the one I purchased. 53 cents #AA21.
