MG TD TF 1500 - Sierra T9 clutch alignment tool
Did someone at one point say that the Sierra T9 clutch alignment tool was available from Moss UK or US? regards, Jan

Why not contact Peter Gamble direct at Hi-Gear: <member@pgamble7.wanadoo.co.uk>. I think you can use one for a Ford. But he would know as he makes the kit for Moss.

Hi Jan, I've done quite a few clutches over the years, on a variety of cars, and have always turned down a piece of wood doweling (broom handle?}, on a lathe, or a Black and Decker gripping a screw in the centre of the dowel, to fit the flywheel bush, and built up the clutch part by winding with tape. Alternatively most car parts shops in the UK will sell you a cheap 'universal' kit, with a variety of dowels etc, or if it's a place you use regularly, lend or hire you one at a nominal price. Remember a lot of clutch centering tools are very similar. Once the mainshaft fits to assemble the gearbox, the job is done, since the first time the clutch is used, the clutch plate will locate exactly, if a few thou out. Incidentally I run a 1990 Sierra, but the gearbox is not for sale It's my 'modern' car, compared to the TF! Good luck, John

Thank you, it seems a good idea to mill down a broom handle to size! regards, Jan

Hi Jan, Glad I could help - you don't need such a tool very often. When you've made up this one suggest you keep it. I've still got one in the workshop I made up 40 years ago with a Black and Decker! Now I've the luxury of a lathe but it was interesting improvising back then. . Cheers, John

Jan I borrowed a Sierra clutch alignment alignment tool from my local Ford dealer, it is Churchill 21-044. They don't have much use for them now. The critical dimensions are small end 15mm diameter, next section 23mm diameter. Hope this helps. Roy Gloucestershire, UK.
