MG TD TF 1500 - Side View Mirror

I've been looking for a side view mirror similar to the one that a PO attached to the windshield bracket on my TD about 15 years ago. Following a friends suggestion I went to my local Cycle shop and found one in a catalog that looked close, used on some Harleys. I ordered it for about $26 and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived to find it was a precise duplicate to the one I have. It's made by "Drag Specialties" # DS-302108 in case anyone is interested. Good quality too.

I know what a (side)rear view mirror is, but what's the use for a side view mirror? Do you use it for parking? ;-)

Do you have a picture of your mirror?

Just a matter of semantics, Willem. Around here we tend to think of the scuttle mounted mirror as being a 'rear view' mirror. Ones mounted on the side of the car, though showing the view to the rear, are referred to as 'side view' mirrors. Bud

We find the side mounted rear view mirrors necessary on lane changing and monitoring traffic in the left lane on multi lane roads.

I have been using Harley mirrors for years. Great Mirrors and dont cost much.

I took the same mirror and turned the shaft, then threaded it 1/4"BSF. I put it in place of the forward most Phillips bolt in the windshield mounting bracket. It worked well, looked good and did not interfere with folding the windscreen down.
I found the mirror to be a little small so I replaced it with a TC style mirror using the Moss bracket to adapt it for Td/TF; only I Modified that bracket too and put it in the windshield bracket bolt hole. It works well and looks factory.

Hi D.

Could you post a picture of your mirror on the car . . . worth a 1000 words :-)

There are some pictures of the TD on the NEMGTR website pictures of GOF mk 89. White TD with Vermont plates. I will take some pictures and post, but it will be a few days before I can

Here is a picture of the mirror. It is a TC mirror, with an adapter bracket from Moss. The bracket was threaded 5/16" SAE. I cut the bracket off at the base of the threads, and drilled about an inch in, then threaded it 1/4". It is held in by a bolt going through the windshield bracket from the inside facing out. The Drag mirror that was on before had the end turned to 1/4 and was threaded 1/4 BSF. That mirror was just to small.
This mirror is very similar to the Arnolt period accessory mirror that was on the car. That mirror was distroyed when the car was wrecked. Although this mirror looks similar, this miror is actually a much more substantial and well made mirror. It even says "Made in England" on it. How cool is that?

Dave,
I like the way you made the mirror assembly attach, What I am not clear about is did you have the mirror and just purchase the 407-488 bracket from moss or did you source the mirror too. If you sourced the mirror where did you get it?
bew wright

Moss part # 407-347 is the one I used and looks exactly like his.
Mort TD 1851

The bracket is Moss part # 407-488. The mirror is a standard TC mirror, Moss part #407-347.
I reciently put this same set up on both sides of our TF. I will post pictures soon.
