MG TD TF 1500 - Side Curtain Chrome Strips
One of the projects that I brought South with me to work on this winter is my Side Curtains (I purchased a recover kit). In dismantleing the old chrome strips one of the pieces had been replaced by a PO with a strip that does NOT match the othersas it is 4 or 5 times too wide. All but this one piece are recoverable by rechroming and there is a good spot here in Tucson AZ that will do these for me. Now I don't want to put the wrong piece back on and I am unable to source just a single strip from the regular vendors. Thus! Does anyone know where a single strip can be found for purchase; on either side of the "pond"? Many thanks and ours best wishes for you all in the new year. Regards Rod Murray

are those strips stainless or chromed? i believe mine are stainless and if so, will polish up very nicely. regards, tom

I asked this question a few months ago (even of Moss), and it does not appear that new single strips are available. Someone on the Forum was kind enough to send me an extra one they had.

I have a few left-over original chrome plated brass strips. They will need replating no doubt. If you can identify exactly what you need or the lengths or where they fit, some of us on the Board will probably be able to help.

I too have the original brass ones that were chromed! The one that I need is the very rear long top one (about 9 & 1/4" long); however, any of the longer ones will more than do as I would be able to shorten it to the correct length and shape the end with silver solder then re-chrome. My email address is rod-murrayathotmaildotcom so one of you who has one that they can part will please contact me so that I can pay you for it and the postage as well as provide my AZ address:) Many thanks Rod Murray

Rod, I am a bit confused about your description of the placement of the needed strip. The Very Rear Long Top One I think is slightly curved and longer than 9 1/4 inches. The Very Rear One is straight and probably fits your measurement. Get me on the right track.

Hi Jim: Sorry to confuse! The one needed is the latter you mention. It is the last rear most strip leaning slightly toward the front of the car.It is a little shorter than the 9&1/4" I mentioned. I measured the old one rather than the correct other side. Many thanks Rod Murray

Rod, how does 8 3/4 inches sound for your needs?
Jim Merz
Hi Jim: That actually sounds perfect:) The Address is: Rod Murray 5441 W Diamond K St Tucson AZ 85713 Please let me know what you would like for the piece and postage! Many thanks Rod Murray

Rod, I will pack up the 8 3/4 inch strip you need later today and mail tomorrow. I will confirm its shipment to you afterwards. Jim

Never ceases to amaze me the help available on this BBS. I only wish that I had found this site 12 years ago when I did my TD. The wonders of modern technology. Cheers, Bob

Rod,the chrome strip was shipped this morning. Tuesday or Wednesday is the estimated arrival date. The cost will be to do a favor for some other member of our T owner BBS family when the occasion arises. Good luck on your Winter project.

Gordon You are just a yougster. I was born the same day as your Queen. You do the math. And such a nice bunch of people on here. I find it very interesting that there are some ladies on here who are just as attracted to these cars as us guys are. Cheers, Bob

Jim: The piece showed up yesterday and is now in at the chrome shop:) Once again many thanks! Rod Murray

Rod, you are very welcome. I am happy it arrived undamaged however I thought the chrome was about as good as it gets. I am pleased you will put it to good use.
Jim Merz
Hi Jim: I hope that taking it to the chrome shop didn't offend. There were some pin holes on one side that he thought he could get out. he stated that these pin holes can be the source of the start of corrosion. Best Regards and thanks again:) Rod

Rod, these old eyes are worse than I thought!!! Glad you spotted the pinholes before the corrosion started.
