MG TD TF 1500 - short cable
Got a hmmmm here. I have found that my inner tach cable is just barely long enough to get to the tach. It was working fine all last year but now is not. The cable is fine and turns, it is just not getting into the tach enough to catch on the drive. I have checked everything, including motor mounts and nothing is incorrect or broken. Mounts on the generator are solid. Tach is tight in the dash. Dash is tight to the backing. I have tried rerouting the cable and cannot get any more length out of it. At this point, my only option is to order the longer RHD tach cable. Anyone had an issue like this?

Bruce my tach cable rounded off at the gearbox end...Speedograph-Richfield sold me just a new inner cable. Terry

My first thought is that the inner works of the tach has somehow receded into the case...Not knowing how they are built, I would guess that a seal, or washer , in the unit is to blame.... The cable didn't shrink, (unless it twisted inside the sheath), so the only other possibility, is that the Gen, or the engine , has moved forward , maybe 1/4"....Not enough to notice, but enough to make the cable too short..... I'll be interested to know what is the cause. Edward
