MG TD TF 1500 - shock identification
I need to identify a front shock. It is an Armstrong unit (Right side) with the numbers BS-1004 and 29/5697. Those are the only numbers I can find on the body. The arms have the numbers 3904-B-AE and 3904-A-AE on them respectively. I think it's for either an MGA, MGB or possibly a later T car. Thanks for any help. Brian Warmuth

Brian - Post you question to Peter Caldwell at World Wide Auto Parts nosimport@mailbag.com, he will be able to identify the shock for you. Cheers - Dave

Brian 5697 IS a later TD or TF front shock. That is Armstrong's part number. Zinc alloy body. The numbers on the arms are of no value. Peter

Thank you David and Peter for this information. I do appreciate it. It is in really nice shape, arms move smoothly and no leaks, has been in my garage for years. I have Girlings, so no need. Looks like Flea-bay or the for sale section of this board. Brian Warmuth

Brian, FWIW, I recently sold two of these on eBay. I put a buy-it-now price of $100 for the pair and they were snapped up in two days. Probably should have listed them at a higher price. :) I sold them as "core only" since at least one needed rebuilding. You might be able to do better on one that is in good operating condition, though that may be tempered by the lack of a warranty. Good luck!
