MG TD TF 1500 - Seat Belt Brackets - Metal Thickness

I'm planning on putting seat belts into my TD during its restoration.

One of the first purchases I made was Horst Schach's book on TD restoration. He has a section in there on bracket design for adding seat belts. He says to use 10 gauge steel which he says is approxiimately 2.7 mm or .10" thick. I was all ready to buy some 10 gauge steel when I looked up the thickness of 10 gauge and saw that it was more like .134" thick.

Is 10 gauge really the right size? Or is .10" thickness - more like 12 or 13 gauge - the right size? I'm inclined to go ahead with the 10 gauge, but wonder what others have used.

I've bought 3mm thick stainless steel for this purpose. Not installed yet. Matt

Sounds like 10 gauge is the way to go. I'm going to stick with steel, though, instead of going to stainless.

Thanks for the comments.
