MG TD TF 1500 - Rear Spring Removal

I'm about to remove the rear springs from 'the53' and could use some guidance. Section I.1 of the WSM makes it sound like a simple project with 3 steps:
Raise the rear of the car and block up under chassis forward of the rear springs.
Remove the nuts holding the "U" bolts to the axle casing and allow the axle to hang from the rebound straps.
Remove the spring anchorage bolts and shackle bolts, when the springs may be lifted away.

Somehow, that just sounds too simple. I've been spraying the fasteners with Kroil for awhile now in hopes getting them to release their 59 year grip. And, there isn't even a section on replacing the spring assembly. Must be a very simple (reverse of the removal) procedure. Yah!!! Right!!

Any help will be appreciated. BTW, the tub is still in 'kit form' in the basement. TIA. Bud

Bud,

That's pretty much how you do it. On reinstallation, the forward bolts need to go through the frame mounts from inboard to outboard, or when the tub goes on you won't be able to remove the springs without cutting the bolt heads off. The longer portion of the spring goes to the rear. Use new mounting rubber, if they go in stiffly, use dish soap as a lubricant.

Bud,
As a general rule the "U" bolts should be replaced any way,, and the shackle bolts and front spring bolts will probably end up being removed with a sawsall and replaced with the new bushings,,,,

As i reread this posting I see that dave has also posted an answer,,,
