MG TD TF 1500 - Rear axle buffer????
| One of the new rubber parts I have come across,in my spare parts, is a Moss #280-660, "Buffer, Rear Axle"... Problem is, it does not show up in the Moss catalog, either on line or magazine... It is a 3" oblong rubber item, with a rectangular raised portion , about 1.5 inches long , in the center... The piece is about 1" wide.....(sorry, no picture).... There are two of them. Sound familiar to anyone....Could either be from a TD or a TC. Edward |

| Edward From your description they are the buffers that fasten to the frame of a TD above the rear axle. They bolt to the frame and are there to stop any metal to metal contact. I thought I had a picture of one in place but don't appear to have one. If you have a workshop manual you will see a picture in Section I - Rear springs and it shows how it fastens to the frame. | Sounds like the rubber in the check strap. Mike |

| Hi, it's listed in the Moss-Europe catalogue as a rear axle buffer for the TA/TC. Ray TF2884 |

| The TD axle buffer is more triangular in shape, and is bonded to a metal base.. SPW |

The buffer is shown at the top ,slightly left of center in this photo.

| This is not the one that goes between the axle restraint straps, that is a large triangular piece....This is about a half-inch thick in the rectangular section, and about 1/4 inch thick elsewhere...Has a mounting hole in each of the oval ends. Edward |

| If it looks like this it is a TC part Ray

| Ray That is it.... I went on the U.K. website, and the part was listed, but there was no illustration of it, only a number. Thanks all for the help. Edward |

Illustrated are the rear axle check straps for my 1936 MG-TA. Same thing as the TB and TC. The rubber buffer prevents the axle from contacting the frame. On the TA/TB/TC, the rear axle is underslung, that is, the axle mounts above the frame, not under like the TD/TF and most other cars.
