MG TD TF 1500 - Question about TD Tach seal
| What can be used as a seal between the trim ring and the body of the tachometer on a TD? The seal on mine was totally crumbled. Looks like it was a plastic of some sort. Can one substitute an o-ring? Has anyone here had to do similar? Thanks, BobbyG

Bobby Check out the web site for British Car Cottage Industries. I think it is www.britcot.com There is a small outfit that sells o-rings and seals for instruments. Tom '54 TF

Thank you, Tom! Not just a reply to my specific need, but a link to a resource I knew nothing about before. BobbyG

I measured the diameter on mine and got a length of "O" ring material from McMaster-Carr. (I got a couple of different diameters) I cut it to length and super-glued the ends to join it as an "O-ring". This is SOP. It works well for me.

JA - great minds think alike. Today I went to Fastenal looking for an o-ring kit. I had to order it and it should be here by week's end. Seemed like a good solutIon and path of least resistance. BobbyG

Mine fell apart too! I found a piece of mini blind cord the right diameter and glued the 2 ends together. Not as water-tight as an O-ring however. I've noticed that the spacing between these parts is critical to getting the right amout of light on the face of the meter. The cord worked out perfectly. Chuck

Another good solution, Chuck. On my way to Fastenal later to get my o-ring kit and make a permanent fix. As a stopgap I rolled up some newspaper, made a long roll and stuck it in there. BobbyG
