MG TD TF 1500 - Previous Owners of TD3376

Thought that this might just get a response. I have had the car for 12 years and prior to my ownership it was stored in Various locations around British Columbia since the previous owner had died in 1976 or 1977. By any chance is there anybody out there who may have owned this car prior to that? The car left the factory on September 20, 1950 and was black with red interior. I have no details of its early life but it must have had a fairly significant accident in about 1951 or 1952 and was repaired but probably didn't drive very well with the unrepaired damage.

It drives like a new car now that everything is as it left the factory but probably didn't turn very well in one direction and most likely went through axles and tires.

Can you post an old photo of the car as you found it? That may help. Also the previous owners name.

No sign of it in the NEMGTR TSO CD-ROM. Bud

Thanks. I am attaching a photo of the car as received but other pictures can be viewed on my web site http://members.shaw.ca/briantsmith/

The previous owner appears to be Donald W McDonald in Kelowna, BC. It may have been in the same family for a while as a David McDonald from Vancouver BC transferred it to Donald saying it had no value.

The windshield did have a couple of decals, one was aBC Vehicle testing permit from 1975(?) and the other was a parking permit from Notre Dame University in Nelson BC for 1975-1976.

That may not help but you never know.

Just a thought......does anybody in Vancouver BC have access to a list of cars that came through the Port of Vancouver or the local dealership? Maybe it was always a West Coast car.

Good day:

Brian the C.of V. Testing Station Sticker was a unique set up run in the '60's-'70's in Vancouver, a mini MOT if you like. It was in a building located in the 1700 block of Albernie St., south of Georgia St., near the entrance to Stanley Park.

It was a City run endeavour employing a mechanical (?) staff at the station and a civilian enforcement branch that roamed the streets, armed with official appearance notices, placing them on the windsscreens of cars, in the same manner as a by-law offence notice (ie:parking), bearing expired or no previous stickers.

Even in 1975, with the lesser amount of vehicular mass, you can barely imagine the grid lock that took place the entire 1700 block of Albernie St. and surrounding streets leading to it. Even though it was laned, with four lanes, it was a nightmare. Plugged, choc-a-block with tired and ticked off motorists all trying to satisfy the staff, receive the coveted clearance sticker which granted the vehicle another year of operatation on the City streets. What a complete "Cluster Foxtrot" was that one ! Similar to the AirCare crap I face in order to get my Government Insurance each year (which is totally discriminatory as it only affects the Lower Mainland of our huge Province). But I wander !

I doubt if any of those City records will exist but you might contact the City Archives to enquire if they do.

Cheers then: Jack Emdall, New Westminster, B.C.

Thanks Jack, a search of the Vancouver archives didn't produce anything usable with regards to the testing station sticker. I have contacted the "T" register to see if they have any records relating to the export of the car, that would be another avenue to search.
