MG TD TF 1500 - Picture request - Original MGTF owners
| Going to be straightening the rear bumper and rear splash apron to my MG TF #1414 next week. I would like see some pictures taken of the spacing / gaps between the rear splash apron, to the rear fenders, to chrome bumper from original TF's. Mine got "pushed" on one side. How it happened...? no idea. This is the stuff that happens being in a garage for years. Minor and very fixable but want to see an original as a guide. A photo taken from above and measurements of the spacing would be great. Anything else you could add would also be appreciated. This is the picture taken a few weeks ago. Not a good angle but you can see how the rear splash apron is kissing the metal to the rear fender on the right side. FYI: The rust you see is flash rust is from me giving this a bath to remove all the dust prior to it being picked up the next day. This will get fixed too. My email is dirtydish AT comcast DOT net Thank you in advance. Frank

| Hate to say this but...you may have a bent frame. The frame Is under the splash apron and right behind the bumper. To me, it looks like the frame maybe bent up on the right side. I would park on a level floor and take some measurements from the frame to the floor leach side, and also take measurements diagonally from side to side to check for square. It does not take much to bend these frames. They good new is they're easily straightened. I've done two successfully. -David |

| Frank, If nobody else responds I'll get some pix today for you. Disclaimer: I'm not sure how "correct" mine is. For what it's worth...mine looked a lot like yours does now 10+ years ago. No frame work was needed, it went back together much nicer after painting. Hope you are as lucky. David |

| ... and for the record - in refinishing your rear apron, the original car showed the weld dimples that held the apron to the rear bumper bracket. If you're into originality, those 10 welds (per side) should not be levelled or filled-in. Pickey-pickey you say, and you might be right. A few years ago I went to a concours , and there was a chap there who swore his TF was original. I drew the judge aside and suggested he look at my TF which as many know has original paint. The dimples were all he needed to call this guy a fraud, especially since he too claimed to have owned it from new (like me!). Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué |

| Thanks David for helping out! I hope mine is an easy fix too. Gordon - I've read about these welds in the archives. Granted, when I first heard about these I looked but couldn't see them or I should say find them because I really didn't know where to look. Do you have a picture? Frank |

| Frank, Sorry these pix aren't better, They were taken in a darkened garage. The welds are much more noticable in daylight. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué.
